Brian slept on the couch last night while I slept in my room. The apartment only had two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and a small area I called the living room.
I looked over to see the time. It was 7 in the morning. I was going to be late for work!
I jumped up and ran to the bathroom through the hall when I ran into something…. Or should I say someone.
“If you wanted to touch me you could had just asked.” Brian said smugly. He was very confident for some reason. “Where are you going anyway?”
“To work idiot.” I said trying to get passed him.
He grabbed my arm and said, “hey now. You don’t have to work anymore.”
I looked over at him with a puzzled expression.
“What do you mean,” I said as I yanked my arm from his grasp, “I can not get fired.”
I quickly ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
“Elena, do you not remember what happened last night? You’re my fiancé now.”
My mouth felt as if it hit the floor. It all came back to me. The deal I made yesterday. I leaned on the door and slowly slid down to the floor.
“You never properly asked me.” I said with my head in my hands.
What had I done? Is this really the best thing for Kade? This is just for a year. I can get through that and then we will be fine.
“Well, Miss. Winters, are you going to come out?”

“No. Not yet.”
I heard his footsteps retreating as I slowly stood up. I washed my face and went to get Kade.
“Hey buddy,” I said as I leaned over to his bed.
“Lena,” he said with a smile as he slowly opened his eyes.
“I got up before you today.”
“I’m tired,” Kade said as he rolled back over.
“Okay. Go back to bed.”
I kissed his head and grabbed the nearest phone. I called the diner and told them I no longer can work there. They went ahead and said I didn’t have to give a two weeks notice. I thanked them and they wished me the best.
I walked into the kitchen to fix me something to drink. Brian was already there trying to work the coffee maker.
“Here,” I said as I began making him a cup of coffee.
He wasn’t saying much. I couldn’t help but remember the look in his eyes when he told me about the deal. He is hiding something from me and I don’t like it.
I handed him his coffee and he muttered a thank you and walked into the living room.
The only thing in the living room was places to sit. I do not have cable or internet. Kade watches tv at Mrs. Smith’s apartment when he is over there.
“Why are you still here?” I asked walking into the living room.
“We have to discuss our deal” he said looking right at me.
“You will move into my house and you can take any of your possessions. Kade will have his own room and I will hire someone to watch over him when you will not be there.” He said as if he had everything planned out.
“What about Mrs. Smith?” I asked.
Mrs. Smith is a widow. Her husband died last year from cancer. Kade keeps her mind off of the loss.
“She can be the baby sitter if that’s what you want.”
I will have to go by Mrs. Smith’s apartment and see if she would enjoy that.
“Anything else,” I asked looking at Brian.
“Oh yeah.” He said getting up from his chair and getting on one knee, “will you marry me Elena Winters?”
