The Akwa Ibom State Police Command is on the trail of one Udoh Okon, who bathed his wife with acid which led to her death.
The incident occurred on Friday at the couple’s home in Mbiakpan Ikot Edim village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of the state, The Herald learned.
Okon was said to have bathed his wife with acid at night during a quarrel before taking to his heels.
Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO, Odiko Macdon, confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying that the youths of the community were helping the police to nab the suspect.
According to the command’s spokesman, Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme was shocked by the incident and has promised to confront domestic violence cases frontally in the state.
“I can confirm that information to be true and the husband, who bathed his wife with acid, unfortunately has absconded. I will like to say that the police are close to apprehending him.
“The police are not working alone but with the assistance of the youths of the community, and they have vowed to ensure that justice is done.
“It is an unfortunate incident; the Commissioner of Police is miffed at the development and has vowed to ensure that family values are respected in the state.
“He gave an assurance that such form of domestic violence or any other form of violence would not be tolerated in the state,” the PPRO said.
